The new album by the Irish Tenors,
Sacred, is outstanding in every way. The diversity of materials chosen for inclusion is particularly to be commended. This runs the gamut, covering works from the Middle Ages to compositions from the current day, and embraces traditional gospel, folk hymns, selections from the Irish Catholic tradition, as well as liturgical music. The musical arrangements are carefully crafted to complement each selection’s individual character, be that either intimate or full-blooded.
The artistry of the Irish Tenors is an unfailing delight. Whether these estimable vocalists are singing as an ensemble or are taking a solo turn, the quality of tone, vocal control, sensitivity to the musical line, and ability to convey the meaning of the text never flags. This album is a worthy addition to their catalogue of recordings.
